The Federal Aviation Act and Regulations was created in 1958 to establish a set of safety standards for air planes, including the conduct of pilots, aircraft manufacturing, and flight operation. Individual states have no legal bearing regarding airlines or airplane crashes. Airlines are allowed to place tariffs on travelers which limit the amount of monetary compensation to $75,000 for damages in the event of an accident. If you can provide proof that the airline was knowingly negligent you may be able to file a claim for more than the $75,000 maximum.
